In our last post, we told you about the official, formal celebration of a girl’s fifteenth birthday – the Quinceañera; when a young Latina makes the ‘transition from childhood to young womanhood1.’ And because we understand at that age, girls usually are into guys, fashion, and all things social media, why not use your Quinceañera invitations to make it a social extravaganza?
Here’s how:
1. Before you purchase your quince años invites from Invitation Warehouse®, think of a hashtag for the event. But wait. I’m taking for granted that you actually know what a hashtag is so please allow me to give you a technical definition.
According to Wikipedia, a hashtag2 is 'a word or a phrase prefixed with the symbol #. It is a form of metadata tag. Short messages on microblogging social networking services such as Twitter, TikTok or Facebook may be tagged by putting "#" before important words, as in:
#Wikipedia is an #encyclopedia that anyone can edit.
Hashtags provide a means of grouping such messages, since one can search for the hashtag and get the set of messages that contain it.”
That way, when all of her friends get their formal invites, which she probably won’t want you to purchase mom; but seeing as you’re old school, we know you probably will; she can have a new spin on her social stationery – a hashtag at the bottom of a traditional, thermo-graphed quince años invitation.
